27-29.05.2010 | 10th ABC Europe Convention & 2nd GABC Conference

In recent years business communication has come of age as a field of scientific inquiry in its own right. Written, oral and on-line interaction within and among profit as well as non-profit organizations is now being studied from a wide range of perspectives and using a great many different methods.

This convention is aimed at presenting a state-of-the-art survey of what the field has accomplished so far and where it is heading. In particular, papers, posters and panels are welcomed that present new research on business communication or that address the question of how such scholarship is relevant to education and practice.

We aim to investigate how business communication teachers and professionals draw on research findings in going about their daily activities in the field.

26.11.2009 until 28.11.2009 | Launch of EULITA

EULITA, the European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association, is an initiative within the framework of the EU Criminal Justice Programme. The project is co-ordinated by Francis Note, Erik Hertog and Yolanda Vanden Bosch. Apart from Lessius two other academic institutions – Edinburgh’s Heriot-Watt University and the University of Ljubljana – participate in the project. The other project partners are professional organisations, such as Tepis (the Polish organisation of court interpreters), Suomen Kääntäien ja tulkkien liitto (the Finnish association of translators and interpreters), APTIJ (the Spanish professional association of court translators and interpreters), AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters)/Hochschule Magdeburg and FIT (Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs).  The kick-off meeting took place in Edinburgh at the end of October 2008. ‘At present we are writing the statutes and preparing the ELITA-website’, says Francis Note. ‘In January the first drafts will be evaluated during a meeting in Ljubljana. The website will make relevant information and links available to all court translators and interpreters, and not only to the project partners. The website should be online by the middle of 2009.’
The launch of the new association will coincide with an international conference on translating and interpreting, which will be organised by Lessius from 26 until 28 November 2009.
